Balthasar Gelt from the Empire – a wonderfully goofy Fantasy Battles classic

We love it when an old Warhammer model shows up and immediately brings back that very specific kind of Fantasy nostalgia. This time Dubry dropped photos of Balthasar Gelt from the Empire, and honestly, this sculpt has exactly the sort of energy we associate with classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles characters.

Balthasar Gelt from the Empire

Dubry summed it up perfectly: the miniature is a bit goofy in that very old-school way. And we mean that as a compliment. There is something incredibly charming about these older Fantasy sculpts — they can be dramatic, overdesigned, slightly awkward, and completely unforgettable all at once.

Balthasar Gelt is exactly that kind of model. Big presence, strong character, and that unmistakable Empire wizard vibe that makes him stand out even before we start talking about paint. He feels like a miniature from an era when Warhammer characters were allowed to be a little theatrical, a little weird, and a lot of fun.

Another look at the model

From a painting perspective, this is also the kind of figure that invites us to lean into the personality of the sculpt. Models like this are not really about subtlety — they are about making the most of the details, the materials, the costume, and the overall absurd majesty of a named character from the old world.

And maybe that is why we still enjoy seeing these miniatures so much. Even when a sculpt is a bit silly, it often has more soul because of it. Old Fantasy Battles had plenty of that: minis that were not always elegant by modern standards, but had huge identity.

So yes — a little goofy, but in the best possible way. A proper Empire Balthasar Gelt, full of oldhammer charm.

If more classics like this keep appearing, we are absolutely not going to complain.
