Wiatry Magii

A chronicle of our Warhammer journey - painting, battles, and hobby adventures.

More Spearheads, More Gluing, More Matchups

We kicked off the year with another hobby purchase and, as usual, it immediately turned into talk of future games.

Michał dropped by the shop to pick up a Spearhead, and apparently even the staff are starting to connect the dots in our local meta. The guy at the store — not the boss, but someone who clearly pays attention — asked whether we were now going to see Vampires vs Sylvaneth on the table, because recently our resident Orruk player had picked up Vampires.

The best part? Michał could honestly answer that it had already been played on Saturday. We do enjoy it when our hobby decisions start looking suspiciously coordinated from the outside.

Stas immediately concluded that maybe the shop doesn’t exactly have a massive customer base if they can keep track of who is buying what for which matchup — which, honestly, only made the whole exchange funnier.

There was also a nice follow-up to an earlier hobby conversation. The same shop guy apparently remembered advising on painting armour for the orcs with a dark red primer first, and asked whether it had worked well in practice. We always appreciate these little recurring hobby threads — one visit starts with buying plastic soldiers, and the next includes a check-in on painting experiments.

And now, of course, comes the next phase: assembly. A lot of assembly.

Freshly bought Spearhead, ready for a lot of gluing

Michał summed it up perfectly: there will be gluing and more gluing. A classic Warhammer purchase experience. First comes the excitement of the box, then comes clipping, cleaning mould lines, dry-fitting, changing our minds about poses, and only then maybe reaching the fun part where the army starts to resemble an army.

Naturally, the conversation escalated into possible future pairings. Ender proposed what might be the true clash of titans: Ents vs Halflings. Which is, admittedly, not the most conventional way to describe a Warhammer matchup, but it does capture the energy of our planning sessions surprisingly well.

So for now, the score is:

  • new Spearhead acquired,
  • local shop gossip updated,
  • painting advice remembered,
  • and the pile of grey plastic has grown once again.

Exactly how we like it.

What’s next?

First: building.

Then: getting the new force on the table.

And after that? We’ll see whether the shop predictions continue to come true.
