Changing Course: From Trees to Skaven

Sometimes an army just doesn’t click

We had one of those very relatable hobby moments recently: buying into an army on impulse, only to realise a bit later that it was just not the right fit.

Michał summed it up very directly — picking up the tree army turned out to be a rushed decision, and after sitting with it for a moment, he simply decided he didn’t like them. And honestly? That is part of the hobby too.

Quick look at the army that didn’t make the cut

No point forcing an army you don’t enjoy

We all know how much motivation in Warhammer depends on that initial spark. If the models don’t excite us, if the look of the army doesn’t grab us, or if we just can’t see ourselves building and painting them for weeks, it gets hard to keep going.

So instead of forcing it, Michał made the healthier hobby choice: move on and start collecting something that actually feels right.

Skaven time

The new direction is Skaven.

That already sounds like a much more energetic project — plenty of character, loads of chaotic ratmen charm, and a completely different vibe from the forest-themed idea. Sometimes that is exactly what an army-building journey needs: a clean break and a fresh start.

We’re big fans of this kind of pivot. Army-building is rarely a perfectly straight line, and sometimes the best decision is admitting: “nope, this one isn’t for me.” Better to realise it early than end up with a pile of models we don’t want to touch.

The fun part of army-building

There is something very satisfying about that moment when the plan suddenly becomes clearer. Even if the first choice was a miss, the next one can instantly feel more natural.

So this is less a story about giving up on one army, and more a story about finding the one that actually sparks enthusiasm. We’re curious to see how the Skaven collection grows from here.

If nothing else, it is a good reminder that in this hobby, changing your mind is completely fine.
