Standing in 2d6 and Fighting Our Thoughts

Michal dropped a dangerous message into our chat: there was a new delivery at 2d6. And, as always with this kind of news, it immediately turned into a hobby dilemma.

New delivery at 2d6

The follow-up was very relatable: “I’m fighting with my thoughts.” We know that feeling very well. Sometimes a new model appears, looks great on the shelf, and suddenly we’re already halfway to justifying why it absolutely needs to come home with us.

In this case, the big temptation was not just the miniature itself, but also its rules. Michal pointed out a particularly fun spell:

pick an enemy unit within 13”, then roll a D6 for each model; on a crit, that model takes mortal damage

And honestly, that is exactly the kind of rule that makes us stop and stare for a while.

The spell that caused the dilemma

There’s something very satisfying about spells like this. It has that perfect mix of chaos, threat, and story potential. You can already imagine the moment on the table: a packed enemy unit gets tagged, dice start rolling one after another, and everyone leans in to see how much damage actually goes through. Even before buying anything, we’re already playing the scene in our heads.

This was one of those small but very familiar hobby moments: seeing a fresh delivery in the local shop, spotting one cool rule, and immediately getting pulled into that internal debate between being reasonable and wanting the cool thing.

We don’t have the final verdict from this conversation yet, but the temptation was definitely real.

Sometimes that’s all it takes: one photo from the shop and one spicy spell.
