League Pairings Are Live: Skaven vs Skaven and a Proper Rat Race

The league pairings are finally live, and it immediately got a lot more interesting than we expected.

Michał dropped the news that he won’t be getting a bye after all — one more player signed up, so he advances to round two with a wildcard instead. That alone already changed the mood around the whole event, because a free pass is one thing, but actually getting pulled into the proper flow of the league feels much better.

And then came the best part: Skaven vs Skaven. Honestly, that matchup sounds like absolute chaos in the best possible way. As Dubry immediately put it: a rat race. Hard to argue with that.

From the first reactions, it also looks like the league kicked people into action right away. Michał noticed that a few of the guys were already trying to set up games for the next day or two, so there’s clearly that familiar early-league energy: pairings go up, calendars come out, and suddenly everyone wants to get rolling as fast as possible.

What also made this feel like a bigger club moment is that it’s not just this one league starting up. At the same time, the Malifaux league and the Blood Bowl league also got underway, so there’s a lot happening around the tables right now. Even if we’re mainly focused on one system in a given week, it’s always great to see the wider local gaming scene picking up speed all at once.

Another fun detail from the chat: Ender pointed out that there are quite a lot of Skaven in the mix this time. That probably tells us everything we need to know about the current local meta — or at least about what people are excited to put on the table right now.

And maybe the best sign that the league start has the right kind of momentum: even people not directly involved in a given match are already interested in dropping by to watch. Ender said that if Michał gets a game arranged, he’d happily come over and spectate. We love that kind of energy. League play is obviously about results and rounds, but it’s also about hanging out, watching weird dice spikes happen, and enjoying the spectacle when two armies like Skaven crash into each other.

So yes — the league is live, the scheduling has begun, and there is a very real chance that one of the early highlights will be a mirror match full of backstabbing, warpstone nonsense, and total battlefield disorder.

Exactly how Skaven should be.
