Soulblight Gravelords Get Their Faction Terrain

A small but exciting bit of army-building news landed for vampire fans this week: the Soulblight Gravelords finally got faction terrain.

Michał dropped the news on our chat and, honestly, this is exactly the kind of reveal that immediately gets us thinking about lists, table presence, and how an army starts to feel more “complete” once it has its own dedicated scenery piece.

For us, faction terrain is always one of those things that does more than just add rules. It gives an army extra identity on the tabletop. Even before we know how often it will show up in competitive lists, it already feels like a big thematic win for the undead side of Age of Sigmar.

First look

From the preview images, the terrain piece definitely leans into that classic vampire aesthetic: dark, ornate, and properly sinister.

Why we care

Army-building is not just about warscroll efficiency and points. A release like this matters because it helps define how an army looks and plays on the table. When a faction gets its own terrain, it often becomes one more little decision point in building and planning an army:

  • do we build around it,
  • do we treat it as a bonus piece,
  • or is it mostly there to make the whole force look incredible on the battlefield?

And with vampires, let’s be honest: atmosphere counts for a lot.

The hobby angle

This is also the kind of release that makes us think straight away about painting plans. Faction terrain is one of the best excuses to go all-in on a theme and tie the whole army together. Stonework, dead vegetation, eerie glow effects, old graves, pools of blood, ghostly light — there is a lot of room here to make a Soulblight collection look even more dramatic.

Even if someone was not planning to add more units right now, a centerpiece terrain element like this can still be a fun project on its own.

Final thoughts

At this stage, this is mostly a quick reaction post because the news itself was too good not to share. The short version: the vampires got faction terrain this week, and we are very curious to see where Games Workshop takes it next.

It is always nice when an army gets another piece of its visual identity locked in. And for Soulblight Gravelords, this feels like a very fitting addition.
