Andrzej’s “Maluch” Bodywork, AKA an Arkanaut Frigate

Some hobby moments are less about big milestones and more about the one-liners that instantly stick in our heads. This time, Michał dropped a perfect description of Andrzej’s latest project: “the bodywork from Andrzej’s maluch” — and a second later clarified what he actually meant: an Arkanaut Frigate.
That immediately gave us a very specific mental image. If you know, you know: sometimes a Warhammer model stops being just a kit for a moment and becomes that one thing everyone in the group now sees forever.

The Arkanaut Frigate is already one of those models that naturally draws attention on the painting desk. Big surfaces, lots of character, and plenty of room to make the hull feel like a proper flying machine rather than just another fantasy vehicle.
In our chat, though, it instantly became something more down-to-earth — or maybe more street-level. Calling it a maluch body shell gave it a wonderfully familiar energy. A bit affectionate, a bit chaotic, and very much the kind of comparison that only appears in hobby group conversations.
We love that kind of thing. One photo, two short messages, and suddenly the whole project has acquired a nickname.
The eternal question: why aren’t you painting?
Then came the classic hobby-chat follow-up from Dubry, aimed at Ender: “why aren’t you painting miniatures?”
Honestly, that may be one of the most universal Warhammer questions ever asked. There is always someone painting a frigate-sized centerpiece, someone else posting photos, and someone getting gently called out for not putting brush to model.
It’s part of the rhythm of the hobby. A little motivation, a little teasing, and maybe just enough peer pressure to get another project moving.
Tiny snapshot, very familiar energy
This was just a short exchange, but it captured something we really enjoy about group hobbying:
- a model gets posted,
- it immediately receives a nickname,
- and someone else gets asked why they’re not painting.
That’s basically the full ecosystem of a friendly painting channel.
If Andrzej’s Arkanaut Frigate keeps the maluch association all the way to completion, we definitely won’t complain.
