Golden Demon Highlights, Tactical Rocks, and a Very Good April Fools’ Joke
A quick hobby news check-in
Sometimes all it takes is a couple of messages and a few screenshots for us to fall straight into a hobby rabbit hole.
On April 1st, Michał first dropped a link to the new Warhammer Tactical Rock article on Warhammer Community. For a brief moment, we could almost believe it — and then, obviously, came the punchline. A proper April Fools’ joke, and honestly, exactly the kind of Warhammer nonsense we can appreciate.
If you missed it, it was this one:
But the real highlight of the chat was the painting side of things, because Michał also shared a few standout entries from Golden Demon — and wow, there was some seriously inspiring stuff in there.
Golden Demon pieces that caught our eye
The first one that got called out was from the Age of Sigmar Warband category, where the third place entry went to a vampire-themed warband. Michał summed it up perfectly: what an awesome little diorama. And yes — that really is the charm of it. It’s not just a set of painted miniatures, it’s a full scene with mood, storytelling, and that compact display style that makes warband entries so fun to look at.

Then there was the Warhammer: The Old World category winner, which also got an immediate that’s incredible reaction from us. Even from a shared screenshot, you could tell it was one of those pieces that just has presence — the kind of model that makes you stop scrolling and zoom in.

And finally, in the diorama competition — the one where, as Michał put it, that horse won — the second place entry featured Squigs. Which is already enough to get our attention, to be fair. Squigs in a well-made display piece are always a strong move, and this one clearly had loads of character.

Why we love posts like this
This was one of those tiny hobby moments we really enjoy: a silly Warhammer joke followed immediately by genuinely inspiring painting work.
One minute we’re laughing about tactical rocks, the next we’re looking at Golden Demon entries and feeling that dangerous urge to start a new project, rebuild bases, or suddenly take dioramas much more seriously than we did yesterday.
That’s kind of the whole hobby in miniature, isn’t it?
If nothing else, this little scroll through Golden Demon definitely reminded us how much can be packed into a display piece — whether it’s a full Age of Sigmar warband, a striking Old World model, or a chaotic little gang of Squigs bouncing through a diorama.
Final thought
So yes: the Tactical Rock was a joke.
But the painting inspiration was very real.
And honestly, that feels like a pretty good summary of a Warhammer April 1st.
