A Very Modest Skaven List
A tiny list, but full of character
Michał dropped his army list into chat with the perfect summary: “my list today is quite modest.” And honestly, that was the right word for it.

The first thing that immediately caught our eye was what wasn’t there. As Ender pointed out: zero Clanrats. For Skaven, that is always a bit of a statement. You expect a tide of rats, a carpet of bodies, some poor disposable souls ready to run forward and die for the greater-under-empire. And yet here we are, looking at a list that goes in a very different direction.
That naturally led to Stas making the joke that it looks like Michał was building for Warcry rather than battle. And, to be fair, we could see what he meant. There is something about a compact, selective roster that feels much more like a skirmish mindset than the classic big-block fantasy approach.
Why we like lists like this
Even if the list is “modest,” this kind of army-building is always fun to see. It says a lot about how someone wants to play:
- fewer filler units n- more emphasis on specific pieces
- a less traditional take on Skaven
- probably a lot more personality than the standard rat carpet
We always enjoy these moments because they show how different people approach the same faction. Some of us want the full horde. Others clearly look at the roster and ask: but what if we just took the fun stuff?
The charm of doing it differently
There is also something very satisfying about a list that makes people stop and comment immediately. No Clanrats in Skaven is the sort of thing that gets noticed at once. It might not be the most classic build, but it is definitely memorable.
And honestly, that is part of the hobby too. Not every army has to start from the most obvious template. Sometimes a list is interesting exactly because it feels a little wrong in the best possible way.
We are definitely curious how this one performs on the table — and whether the “Warcry energy” turns out to be a hidden strength or just a very funny first impression.
Final thoughts
A small list, no Clanrats, immediate banter — basically a perfect little snapshot of army-building chat in our group. We love this kind of thing: one photo, one unusual choice, and suddenly everyone has opinions.
If nothing else, Michał’s list already achieved one important victory: it got us talking.
