An Evening of Resin, Rats and a Very Funny Necromancer

One more batch before calling it a night

Some hobby evenings are all about big milestones, and some are about squeezing in one last batch before we finally admit it’s late. This one was definitely the second kind.

Michał wrapped up the last prints for the day: five Stormvermin (including a standard bearer and musician), a leader for the Nightrunners, and Staś’s Necromancer. A very Skaven-heavy session, with one suspiciously undead guest joining the queue.

Freshly printed batch for the evening

At that stage it was still too early to judge the Necromancer properly — there were still 12 minutes of UV curing left, and as always with resin, the final verdict only comes once the model is fully done and in hand.

The great primer question

Then came one of those completely normal hobby dilemmas: what do we do when we don’t have the primer we wanted?

Michał was out of black primer, so the options for the Necromancer became:

  • stain him brown,
  • or just leave him in bare resin for now.

The brown won out quickly, especially since a new brown had already been bought for some treehugger plans. Staś was fully on board with that direction anyway, because he primes his own stuff in burgundy.

And of course that immediately gave us the phrase of the evening:

Bordeaux Prime, the French cousin of Optimus.

Honestly, no notes.

The Necromancer reveal

Once the curing was done and the model was ready to inspect, the reaction was immediate: the Necromancer looked great.

Also, and this is important, he looked funny in exactly the way a Warhammer necromancer should. A little weird, a little dramatic, and full of rules energy.

The Necromancer after curing

Michał summed him up perfectly: he’s the kind of character who seems to redirect his own beating onto skeletons or zombies instead. Which, if we’re being honest, feels extremely on-brand for necromancy.

Then came the post-brown update — and yes, the color turned out to be quite light, but the overall result was still really strong.

Hobby experiments continue

In between prints and primer jokes, Michał also ordered a lower-shrinkage resin. That’s one of those small upgrades that could make a big difference, especially if the goal is to build models cleanly from separate parts without fighting fit issues.

We’re very curious to see how that works out in practice, because every improvement in print quality means less cleanup, less frustration, and more time for the actually fun parts.

And finally: Slaves to Darkness enter the queue

Because one project is never enough, the evening closed with the first batch of Slaves to Darkness going onto the printer for next week’s league night.

So all in all, a very solid hobby session:

  • Skaven reinforcements done,
  • Necromancer tested and approved,
  • new resin on the way,
  • and Chaos already preparing for the next game.

Exactly the kind of evening we like most: a bit messy, very productive, and with at least one joke stupid enough to stay with us for way too long.
