One Die Away from the Podium

Fast hobby day, big league result

Some days in the hobby are all about careful planning. Others are about trying to leave work on time, gluing the last few models together, and following tournament results with way more excitement than we probably should admit.

This was definitely the second kind of day.

We started with the very practical question: are we aiming for 15:00, 16:00, or somewhere in between? As usual, real life had its own plans. Work ran long, timing got fuzzy, and Pegie was racing the clock because there were still some Blood Warriors left to assemble before meeting up.

Fighting time itself because I still had Blood Warriors left to glue, and of course work came up with extra tasks today.

That sentence really captures the hobby mood perfectly.

Meanwhile: league news

In the middle of all that, Michał dropped the kind of update we love to see:

8th place.

And not just a “nice, solid finish” kind of 8th place. This was the painful, exciting, motivating kind — because it turned out that one die roll was the difference between a good event and a shot at the podium.

The plan going in had been simple: have fun and get some games in. No pressure, no expectations of winning anything. But the event went better than expected, and suddenly the margins started to matter.

In Michał’s own summary, if the charge against Komoroff had gone through, that game would likely have been a win instead of a one-point loss — and that swing would have meant 1012 more points, enough to put him in 3rd place.

That is both brutal and very Warhammer.

Still, finishing 8th while expecting something closer to 13th is a fantastic result, and honestly the best part is what came right after:

the autumn league goal is now top 5.

We love that energy. First you go just to play. Then one close game changes your expectations. Then suddenly there’s a real target on the horizon.

First steps into Chaos

As if that wasn’t enough for one day, Michał also showed his first late-night attempt at painting Chaos.

The goal was simple and relatable: not to play with bare plastic.

And if you’ve ever jumped from one army style to a completely different one, you’ll know exactly what came next. Painting Chaos turned out to be a very different experience from painting dirty, grimy rats. Different textures, different mood, different approach.

That early stage where you know it feels unfamiliar, but you’re already figuring it out, is one of the most interesting parts of starting a new army.

First Chaos painting attempt

Honestly? We like these moments a lot. Not the polished, finished-army showcase stage, but the in-between stage — when someone says “this came out kind of okay” and you can already see the new project taking shape.

Looking ahead to autumn

The conversation quickly moved from “nice result” to the obvious next question: who else is getting ready for the next league season, and who is pushing toward 2000 points by autumn?

That is probably the most familiar escalation in the hobby:

  • one event goes better than expected,
  • one new army starts getting assembled,
  • one casual question appears in chat,
  • and suddenly there is a whole next season to prepare for.

Exactly how it should be.

For now, the score for the day was something like this:

  • work tried to interfere,
  • hobby panic was real,
  • Blood Warriors were still waiting for glue,
  • Chaos got its first paint,
  • and Michał finished one die roll away from 3rd, ending the event in a very respectable 8th place.

We’ll absolutely take that.

And yes — top 5 in autumn sounds like a very good plan.
