Work in Progress, Fresh Hobby Tools, and Votann on the Horizon

Stas dropped a proper work in progress update into the chat and, honestly, the reaction was immediate: noooice, they look awesome, and generally the kind of energy we like to see in a hobby group.

From the photos alone it was clear that this was one of those satisfying stages of painting where the models are already looking the part, but you can still feel there’s more depth and detail to come. We always like these moments, because a good WIP shot has a special kind of magic — enough done to get everyone excited, enough left to keep the painter hungry.

At the same time, End3r had a very different kind of hobby update: the first ever Temu order had arrived. Expected delivery time was listed as 5–17 working days, and naturally it landed in exactly 5. Best kind of surprise.

The haul was small but very practical: a cutting mat and two 3D-printed painting handles for testing. The cutting mat got an especially strong review at home — apparently one of those rare hobby purchases where the cheap option turns out to be basically the same as the expensive one. We respect that kind of value tech.

Then the conversation drifted, as it often does, toward the next project in the queue: Leagues of Votann. Or, as briefly renamed in chat, Voltany. Then corrected. Then almost promoted to Zoltan. That part felt very on brand for us.

Right now the Votann are still waiting their turn. End3r wants to finish the Frigate balloons first, and only then move on to assembly and painting. The plan is simple and dangerously familiar: finish the current thing, swap the hobby knife blade, and immediately push into the next box with fresh motivation.

There was also a very relatable moment where the “old races” delegation admitted that keeping up with all the newer names in the setting is not always automatic. To which came the fair rebuttal: Votann are actually one of the old ones — people just didn’t pay attention to them for a very long time.

In other words: classic hobby chat. Nice minis, new tools, project backlog, lore banter, and at least one terrible joke.

That’s also why we like posting these smaller updates. Not every hobby moment needs to be a finished army or a polished tutorial. Sometimes the fun is exactly here: in the WIP shots, in the package that arrived faster than expected, and in the excited planning for what gets built next.

More Votann soon, we suspect. And probably more WIP spam too — just the way we like it.
