A Great Army, Some Lovely Knights, and One Very Unfinished Be’lakor

Painting impressions from the table

Sometimes one model changes how we look at an entire army.

Michał recently spotted something in an opposing force that genuinely caught him off guard: Be’lakor was completely unpainted. Not “work in progress” in the charming hobby sense, but more in the wait, what, how did we miss that? category. As he put it, he hadn’t even realized it at first.

Unpainted Be’lakor in the army

And honestly, that made the whole thing even funnier, because the rest of the army clearly had some strong points.

The Knights were the highlight

The biggest positive surprise were the Knights. Michał called their paint level really good, and that feels like the fairest summary here. They still need a bit more love to really look finished, but the overall effect was already very solid and eye-catching.

That kind of army is always interesting to see on the table: parts of it already look great, parts still feel unfinished, and the contrast is impossible to ignore once you notice it.

The classic “lost momentum halfway through” feeling

Staś summed it up perfectly: it looked like someone got bored halfway through.

And, honestly, we get it. We’ve all had projects where the initial excitement carries us through a few centerpiece units, and then somewhere between “this is going to be amazing” and “I just need to finish the last big model” the energy disappears. Suddenly the army is playable, some units look fantastic, and one of the most important models is still waiting for primer.

That’s a very real hobby story.

A relatable painting lesson

What we liked about this little moment is how familiar it feels. A strong-looking army doesn’t have to be perfectly finished to make an impression. Good-looking Knights can absolutely carry the visual side of a force for a while. But at the same time, an unpainted centerpiece like Be’lakor will always stand out.

So this was one of those hobby sightings that was both impressive and deeply relatable: great work on the Knights, but the army still needs a final push.

And maybe that’s the most Warhammer painting thing imaginable.
