Wiatry Magii

A chronicle of our Warhammer journey - painting, battles, and hobby adventures.

One game, one Votann decision, and way too many Khorne temptations

Hobby evenings in a nutshell

Some evenings are perfect examples of how our hobby usually works: first we throw dice, then we start planning purchases, and before the night is over somebody is already deep into preorder links and army box analysis.

That was exactly the vibe this time.

Leagues of Votann were punching each other in the face

As end3r summed it up beautifully: “Lejo się po mordach”. There was a game in progress, complete with a few unexpected moments, a swing in momentum, and a pretty respectable final score.

At one point it sounded like things were going really well, even if the result was starting to slip away. Then came the turning point: a hit from a grenade launcher into a crowd, and the game flipped.

Final result?

7–10, loss — but a good one.

And honestly, those are often the best games to talk about afterward. Not the total stomps, but the ones where weird plays happen, plans almost work, and everyone leaves the table feeling like it was worth it.

The battle continues

Tomorrow’s research quickly became today’s decision

In the middle of all this, end3r announced the next important step: figuring out which Leagues of Votann Kill Team to buy.

The shortlist was clear:

  • Hearthkyn Salvagers
  • Hernkyn Yaegirs

The internet delivered the usual balanced answer: it depends on playstyle, Salvagers are great at objective control and shooting, Yaegirs bring close-range pressure, stealth, and trickier mechanics.

And then, just a moment later, the matter was settled in the most straightforward way possible:

shooting uber alles

So yes, it looks like the research phase was short-lived and the choice basically made itself. If your heart belongs to solid shooting, then sometimes there really isn’t much more to discuss.

Meanwhile, Age of Sigmar launched a full Khorne assault on our wallets

While one side of the chat was still focused on dice and Votann buying plans, michalbe arrived with a completely different kind of threat:

new Blades of Khorne preorders.

And not just one thing. A whole wave of “wait, what?” moments.

Spearhead: Blades of Khorne looks brutal

The first hit was the new Spearhead: Blades of Khorne – Fangs of the Blood God preorder.

The immediate reaction was extremely scientific and measured:

“ale dobry bydlak”

followed shortly by:

“ja jebie”

Which, to be fair, tells you a lot about the first impression.

There was also some quick rules hype in chat:

  • crits on 5+
  • movement in the deployment phase
  • thankfully only a 5+ save

So naturally, this instantly became one of those boxes that makes you stop whatever else you were doing and start mentally rearranging your budget.

Gamers Edition battletomes are a genuinely cool idea

Another thing that caught our attention was the new Khorne battletome, especially the fact that it comes in two editions:

  • regular edition
  • Gamers Edition

And honestly, the Gamers Edition sounds very sensible. The lore stays in the book, while list-building material goes onto cards, so you don’t have to keep flipping through the whole tome every time you want to check something.

That is the kind of practical format we can absolutely get behind.

Gamers Edition contents

And as a nice extra note for the rest of the group: the Kharadron battletome also got a Gamers Edition. So this wasn’t just a Khorne-only surprise.

New hero, old print, fresh official model

Then came another fun discovery: a new Khorne hero preorder.

The best bit here was the realization that this is the new official version of a model michalbe had previously printed for pegie. That is a very specific kind of hobby moment we love — when a preview drops and suddenly everyone recognizes exactly what it is.

The return of the warband box

And then things escalated again, because the Goreblade Warband is back.

And yes, the reaction was once again mostly about how cool the box looked.

Contents shared in chat:

  • 1x Mighty Lord of Khorne
  • 1x Bloodsecrator
  • 1x Bloodstoker
  • 1x Khorgorath
  • 5x Blood Warriors
  • 10x Bloodreavers

That is a very classic, very Khorne-looking bundle, and definitely the kind of box that makes old and new AoS players start doing value calculations in their heads.

And of course there was a new Regiment of Renown too

Because why stop there?

A new Regiment of Renown also showed up in the discussion, adding one more thing to the ever-growing pile of tempting releases.

So what are we buying then?

By the end of it, pegie’s conclusion felt extremely relatable:

Not sure yet if it’ll be Spearhead or the regiment. I’ll think about it in August :)

Which is probably the healthiest possible response when Games Workshop starts dropping multiple shiny things at once.

Final thoughts

This was one of those very Wiatry Magii hobby evenings:

  • a game that ended in a loss but still sounded genuinely fun,
  • a very fast Kill Team buying decision process,
  • and a full-on preorder bombardment from the Age of Sigmar side.

So at the moment our status is roughly:

  • end3r is leaning hard toward Hearthkyn Salvagers because, obviously, shooting,
  • Khorne is trying to bully its way into somebody’s August budget,
  • and we are once again reminded that browsing GW preorders during or right after a game is always dangerous.

Very dangerous.
