Saturnine Kitbash Fever, and a Change of Plan
Painting chat of the day: Saturnine everywhere
Sometimes all it takes is one photo and suddenly we realise half the hobby internet had the same idea before us.
Michał dropped into chat with the very relatable discovery that people are kitbashing Saturnine-style models all over the place — so apparently he wasn’t the only one thinking along those lines. And honestly? Fair enough, because they really do look absolutely beastly.

The immediate reaction in chat was basically unanimous: these conversions look great. Big, chunky, imposing silhouettes just have that special Warhammer energy, and it’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to them.
But the more interesting bit is that the plan has already shifted a little — which is also extremely relatable hobby behaviour.
Instead of sticking to the earlier concept, Michał said that the one he’s currently working on is going to become a Lord of Contagion. The original idea involving the Deathshroud hasn’t been abandoned, just pushed back for later.
And honestly, that sounds like a very solid direction. A heavily converted Saturnine-inspired body feels like a great fit for a Death Guard character: huge presence, lots of room for nasty details, and exactly the kind of model that can become a proper centerpiece once painting starts.
So for now, the project seems to be heading toward:
- Lord of Contagion first
- Deathshroud later
- and probably a lot more fiddling with the concept along the way, because that’s just how these things go
We always like these little moments in the hobby process — when an idea starts in one place, gets confronted with what other people are doing, and then mutates into something even better. It’s one of the fun parts of kitbashing: even if the starting point turns out not to be unique, the final model still very much can be.
We’re definitely curious to see where Michał takes this one once the build is further along and paint gets involved.
The most important lesson?
Finding out that loads of other people had the same idea doesn’t mean the idea is bad.
Usually it just means it was a good one.
