Wiatry Magii

A chronicle of our Warhammer journey - painting, battles, and hobby adventures.

A suspiciously cheap Bretonnia army caught our eye

We had one of those classic hobby-chat moments recently: someone drops a listing into the chat, everyone squints at it for a second, and then the speculation starts immediately.

This time it was a large Bretonnia army — supposedly over 250 miniatures — with heroes, pegasi, heavy and light cavalry, gryphs, a trebuchet, bombards, archers, infantry, and more. The asking price? 1500 PLN.

Bretonnia army listing

Our first reaction was basically: wait, what?

As Ender put it, it looked like it might be worth several times more at first glance. And honestly, for a big old-school Bretonnia collection, that kind of price definitely makes us stop and look twice.

Then came the second look.

Michał pointed out that some of the models might be prints, which would explain a lot. And the wording in the ad — “in original Warhammer scale” — immediately raised some eyebrows too. That kind of phrasing does not exactly scream “fully original GW collection”. More like: please do not ask too many follow-up questions.

Close-up from the listing

To be fair, we are not saying the seller was definitely trying anything shady. But this is exactly the sort of listing where you would want to check everything carefully before even thinking about buying:

  • what is original and what is printed,
  • what material the miniatures are made of,
  • the actual condition of the models,
  • whether the army is complete in any meaningful sense,
  • and whether the photos match the description.

Bretonnia has that magical effect on Warhammer fans where a big lot of knights and peasants can make us briefly forget all common sense. But this was a nice reminder that when a deal looks too good, there is usually a reason.

Still, as far as hobby chat goes, this was a fun one: a huge nostalgic army, a suspiciously low price, and just enough ambiguity to get everyone talking.

If nothing else, it gave us a brief trip into the timeless Warhammer secondary-market minigame: treasure find or hobby trap?
