These Proxy STLs Are Absolutely Brilliant
We almost let this one slip by.
Michał dropped in a photo, wanted to write a whole thing about it, and then hobby life happened and a few other things stole the spotlight. But the important part survived loud and clear:
these proxies are brilliant.
For $29 for an entire army in STL files, this feels like one of those hobby finds that instantly makes us want to talk about it with everyone. Not just because it’s cheap, either. The bigger thing is that they look fantastic.
Why we’re excited
The real selling point here isn’t only the price, although paying $29 for a full army’s worth of STLs is hard to ignore. It’s that the models apparently look beautiful and fit in really well with proper GW miniatures.
And honestly, that’s the dream with proxies, isn’t it?
We don’t just want something “close enough”. We want models that look great on their own, but also don’t feel out of place when they stand next to official Games Workshop kits on the table or in the display cabinet. From Michał’s reaction, these absolutely nailed that.
The sweet spot for proxy models
There are a lot of proxy ranges out there, but not all of them hit that balance between:
- strong sculpt quality,
- a coherent army look,
- good value,
- and compatibility with the rest of a Warhammer collection.
When something manages all four, it immediately becomes much more interesting. It stops being just a budget substitute and starts feeling like a genuinely exciting hobby option.
That’s very much the vibe here.
Hobby value like this is hard to ignore
Let’s be honest: finding an army-sized STL bundle at that price and then discovering that the sculpts are actually gorgeous is the kind of thing that gets us properly hyped. If the models also blend naturally with GW stuff, that makes the whole purchase even better.
It’s the kind of buy that makes us think not just about printing one force, but about what else might be possible once we start digging through similar ranges.
Final thought
Sometimes a hobby purchase is interesting because it’s practical. Sometimes it’s exciting because it’s cheap. And sometimes it’s worth shouting about because it just looks that good.
This one sounds like all three.
So yes, in case it wasn’t clear enough yet:
these proxies are wonderful.
