A Small Discovery: Alternative Armies and Their Oldhammer Charm
Sometimes the best hobby finds come completely out of nowhere.
This time it started with Michał dropping a link on our chat and saying it might be right up our alley: Alternative Armies – Goblin Hordes. And honestly? That was a very good call.
Alternative Armies are, as the name suggests, making alternative armies — but the part that immediately caught our attention was the oldhammer feel. These are not modern, ultra-clean digital sculpts chasing perfect symmetry. Michał pointed out that their masters are hand-sculpted, and you can really feel that classic character in the designs.
That kind of sculpting style has a lot of charm for us. A bit more personality, a bit more weirdness, and exactly the sort of vibe that makes you want to build an army around the miniatures rather than just buy a box because it is efficient on the tabletop.
What caught our eye
The original link was to the goblins, and yes — they are great. Very much in that classic fantasy style that instantly makes us think of older eras of Warhammer.
But the real surprise in our chat was the undead range. Stas summed it up perfectly: he did not know the company before, and in his opinion the undead are even cooler than the orcs and goblins. That is high praise, because the greenskin side already looked very strong.
Michał also shared a couple of vampire images and, honestly, we get what he meant when he said these are the kind of vampires you would not want to give back.

There is something wonderfully unapologetic about these models. They are dramatic, a little eccentric, and full of that older fantasy miniature energy that is hard to fake.
Why we like finds like this
We always enjoy stumbling across miniature companies that clearly have their own identity. Not everything has to fit perfectly into the latest official range. Sometimes it is just fun to find a sculptor or company making things with a very specific aesthetic and a lot of heart behind it.
For anyone who likes:
- oldhammer-inspired miniatures,
- hand-sculpted character,
- classic fantasy goblins, orcs, and undead,
- or just browsing unusual ranges for painting inspiration,
this looks like a range worth checking out.
We are not calling this a full review or a buying recommendation yet — this was very much a first-contact hobby discovery post. But it definitely landed on our radar, and we suspect it may not be the last time we mention Alternative Armies.
If you already know their ranges, especially the undead, let us know which miniatures are your favourites.
