First impressions of the new Warhammer 40,000 edition
A new Warhammer 40,000 edition teaser dropped, so of course we immediately started throwing first impressions around.
The trailer itself is here:
Wilini summed up our mood pretty well: we’re really curious about this next edition, because it looks like a lot of changes are coming.
A few things immediately stood out to us:
- No more circle objectives
- More of a hidehammer vibe, because it should be easier to hide units
- A mix-up in detachments
- Missions tied to what you’re playing
And honestly? We like the sound of that.
What especially caught our attention was the idea that missions might feel more like Kill Team — more dependent on what kind of force you bring and how it actually plays on the table. If that ends up being true in practice, it could make games feel a lot more thematic and less samey from mission to mission.
That kind of mission design is something we’re very happy to see explored more in big 40k. If different armies, detachments, or force styles push the game toward different objectives and different decisions, that could be a really fun direction.
And of course, there was also one immediate reaction that needs no further explanation:
Kozacki unit.
Fair enough.

Right now these are just our very early impressions from the trailer and the first discussion, but the overall feeling is positive. We’re curious how far these changes actually go, and whether the final rules really deliver on that promise of more dynamic missions, more meaningful detachment choices, and a battlefield where positioning matters even more.
For now, we’re definitely watching this one closely.
