Warriors of Chaos or Dwarfs? Our Very Scientific Old World Army-Building Debate
We had one of those very relatable army-building chats recently: trying to figure out what might actually fit a player’s style, while also fully admitting that sometimes our expertise is… flexible.
This time the topic was what End3r should play in Warhammer: The Old World.
Stas kicked things off with a strong suggestion: maybe just go with Warriors of Chaos. In his words, they felt a bit like the Salamanders of the Old World — which is honestly a pretty evocative way to pitch them. Tough, elite, straightforward, and very much about that heavy-hitting style.
He followed that up with the key question: does that kind of playstyle actually fit?
A moment later, our discussion took the most modern possible turn: consulting Gemini.

Michał countered with a different AI-flavoured take, and suddenly the argument shifted toward Dwarfs. Then came a very convincing summary:
If you’re looking for an army that advances slowly, doesn’t crack under fire, proudly wears the heaviest armour, and can burn the enemy at short range, Dwarfs will be a perfect choice.
That is, to be fair, an extremely good dwarf sales pitch.

Stas admitted that this was, in fact, exactly the kind of AI-assisted reasoning he had been using too.

But the most interesting part of the exchange came right after the jokes.
The real read on End3r’s preferences was that he seems to like elite armies. And that changes the recommendation quite a lot.
Yes, Dwarfs are tough. Yes, they can absolutely fit a durable, methodical style. But Stas pointed out something important: they may still end up being too model-heavy for the kind of game experience End3r seems to enjoy. If what you really want is a force where every unit feels premium, every loss matters, and the army leans into compact power rather than steady ranks, then Warriors of Chaos probably sound like the cleaner fit.
So where did we land?
Pretty much here:
- Dwarfs: durable, reliable, slow, armoured, and great if that stubborn wall-of-steel fantasy is what you want.
- Warriors of Chaos: likely a better match if the priority is an elite army style with fewer models and a more concentrated punch.
And, in true hobby-discussion fashion, we also ended on the most honest possible note:
Or to put it another way: we don’t really know!
Which, honestly, is part of the fun of army-building in The Old World. Sometimes you start with lore. Sometimes with aesthetics. Sometimes with playstyle. And sometimes with your friends comparing factions to Salamanders and asking AI to justify the vibe.
That still counts as research.
