Salamanders Combat Patrol on the Desk: Intercessors, Eradicators, and a Very Relative “Quick Paint”

We’ve got another painting project rolling across the hobby desk: end3r is working through the remaining models from the Salamanders Combat Patrol for Colosseum.

The current state of the mission is very clear. The 10 flamer Marines are already done — apparently “quickly” and “for some time now”, which in our group naturally invited some questions about what exactly counts as quick.

“Quickly” meaning under 200 hours, right?

And yes, according to end3r, that is exactly the definition we are using here.

At this stage, the ATV is postponed for later, but there’s a nice Adrax in the collection already, so the immediate painting queue is:

  • 5 Intercessors
  • 3 Eradicators
  • ATV — later

That gives the project a really nice, focused shape: a compact Salamanders force, with the most urgent infantry still to finish before the bigger vehicle gets its turn.

We like this kind of project a lot. It’s not some vague “maybe one day” pile-of-shame ambition, but a specific goal with a reason behind it: getting the remaining Salamanders painted up for Colosseum. That usually helps a lot with momentum, even if “quick” still means something slightly terrifying in hobby-hours.

Also, Salamanders are just a great army for this kind of work. Even from a single snapshot on the desk, they have that strong visual identity: heavy infantry, flame and melta weapons, and characters that instantly sell the theme. A force built around Intercessors, Eradicators, and Adrax feels very on-brand.

So that’s the current painting front from us: green armour, heat weapons, and a realistic acceptance that some models are for now, while the ATV can wait its turn.

If this is the “quick version,” we are honestly curious what the long version looks like.
