Five Out of Fourteen, and a Handy Old World Rules Reminder

Sometimes our hobby chat takes a hard turn from rules confusion straight into painting progress, and honestly, that feels very on-brand for us.

This time it started with a small but important Warhammer: The Old World discovery: even without a wizard, there are still things worth remembering in the magic phase. End3r mentioned that being reminded about dispelling made him realize he could and probably should have been doing it, but the exact source of that rule had gone fuzzy. Michał quickly came in with the answer: from nothing special at all — it’s just the rule.

That led us to the relevant reference for Fated Dispel, which is one of those tiny rules details that can easily slip past you until it suddenly matters in a game.

Wilini was surprised too — especially from the Dwarf perspective. If your whole faction hates magic and doesn’t bring specific anti-magic runes, it’s easy to assume they just stand there and take it. But no: as Michał confirmed, it works regardless of range, and there’s no risk of miscast either. Very dwarfy in practice: stubbornly shutting magic down without participating in any of the flashy nonsense.

And then, in the most natural hobby-chat pivot possible, Wilini dropped a painting update:

5/14 done

Which is exactly the kind of progress report we love. Not “finished the whole army,” not “big reveal soon,” just a solid, honest checkpoint. Five painted models out of fourteen means the unit is properly underway, the momentum is there, and the finish line is visible even if it’s not quite in reach yet.

Painting progress — 5 out of 14 done

We really like these in-between hobby moments. They’re not the polished “army complete” posts, but they’re probably the most relatable part of the whole process: checking rules, learning something new, painting a few more models, and sharing a quick snapshot with the group.

So this one had a bit of everything:

  • a useful Old World rules reminder,
  • some Dwarf-flavoured anti-magic appreciation,
  • and a nice little painting milestone.

Five out of fourteen today. The rest will follow — probably with more rules questions along the way.
