From “Squat Chewbacca” to a Proper Brute Proxy
Sometimes a hobby purchase starts with excitement, and then immediately turns into: “wait, what exactly did we just buy?”
That was exactly the mood when end3r took a closer look at one of the dwarfy models and had a brief moment of hope that he had somehow stumbled onto a Squat Chewbacca. Sadly, reality hit fast — it turned out to be, in his own words, basically just a dwarf with an upside-down moustache.
Naturally, the only sensible reaction from the group was immediate hobby nonsense. Michał summed it up perfectly by saying he would totally glue the guy on upside down. Honestly, we respect the commitment to the bit.
A little later, end3r dug deeper into what the model was actually supposed to represent. The original idea was that it might work as a proxy for a Brute, specifically a Vartijan Exo-Driller. But after checking things properly, that theory also fell apart a bit. The supposed stand-in was apparently nowhere near the real thing in terms of scale and overall presence.
And that makes sense, because the actual brute of a model is… well, a brute. It sits on a 50 mm base and, as end3r noted, costs 180 PLN in the GW store.
So the current plan is simple: if the 3D print from China turns out decent, end3r will probably just go that route and grab something that actually looks the part. Which, honestly, feels like a very relatable stage of the hobby journey — starting with a funny mistaken impression, going through the proxy justification phase, and ending with a practical “fine, we’ll just get the big lad we wanted in the first place.”
We love these little hobby detours. Sometimes they lead to a great conversion idea, sometimes to an accidental comedy miniature, and sometimes to a renewed appreciation for just how enormous some Warhammer models really are.
