New Infantry, Mounted Kitbashes, and Split Opinions
We had one of those very relatable hobby chats recently: someone drops a cool conversion, and suddenly we are all looking at new kits, comparing sculpts, and wondering what else could be built from them.
Michał kicked it off by showing us a kitbash where the new infantry had been turned into mounted models. And honestly, it looked really good.
Our first reaction was basically: oh wow, that actually works. The models looked solid, and one detail got an immediate shoutout from us — the cackling blade was especially cool.
That also made some things click from a gameplay perspective. Michał joked that now he finally understood why Ymir plays things like 8 heroes in a list. Once you start seeing how much can be squeezed out of a kit, and how characterful these builds can get, some list-building choices suddenly make a lot more sense.
Then came the inevitable next step: comparing old and new versions, and realizing that opinions are, of course, divided.
But the funny thing is, we did not really land on a hard “old good, new bad” or the other way around. Quite the opposite. We ended up feeling that both versions have something going for them.
Wilini summed it up well: both sets are cool in their own way, but the new plastic kit seems especially strong. The material and build options look great, and the sculpts themselves feel really successful. The new models also seem to have better-looking swords, shields, and even the armour overall.
That naturally led to the next hobby thought: if the infantry looks this good, then what would the new lances look like? That is exactly the kind of question that starts as a casual comment and ends with us browsing bits, planning conversions, and talking ourselves into future projects.
This was not a grand battle report or a finished army showcase — just a small slice of hobby excitement. But honestly, we love these moments. A single image, a quick comparison, a few strong opinions, and suddenly there is a whole conversation about aesthetics, conversion potential, and how new kits might change the way we build our forces.
Sometimes that is all it takes to get the hobby brain going again.
