Archaon Is Back on the Menu
Sometimes an army idea appears fully formed the moment we see a base size.
That was exactly the case here. Michał dropped the news about the new Chaos Dragon, noticed that it comes on a 100x150 base, and immediately our collective brain went to the same place:
Archaon is back on the menu, boys.
For army-building people like us, this is the kind of tiny rules-and-model detail that instantly turns into a full hobby plan. A base footprint can decide whether an old idea stays a joke, becomes a conversion project, or suddenly turns into a very real campaign threat.
The key part was simple: with that base size, Michał reckons he can fit Archaon on it without a problem. And honestly, that is exactly the sort of dangerous sentence that leads to a new centerpiece model, a fresh list idea, and at least a few evenings of excited planning.
Then came the proof-of-concept photo — the kind of image that immediately upgrades a silly idea into a proper hobby scheme.
And that is the real magic of army-building, isn’t it? Not spreadsheets, not just point values, not even list-writing on its own — but those moments when a new release makes us look at the shelf, the bits box, and the campaign roster in a completely different way.
In this case, the vision is wonderfully chaotic already. Michał is not even pretending this is a sensible, safe plan. He is actively looking forward to the campaign experience of throwing Archaon back into the mix and, in his own words, enjoying something like 15 miscasts along the way.
Which, to be fair, feels very on-brand for a big dramatic Chaos centerpiece in a campaign setting. If it works, it will be glorious. If it explodes in magical disaster, it will also be glorious.
That is probably why we love these ideas so much.
So yes: one new dragon, one important base measurement, and suddenly a whole army-building thread opens up again. We are very much here for that kind of energy.
