A Full Day of Kill Team Punishment at Manewry
We had one of those very specific hobby days that are equal parts pain, laughter, and somehow still great fun.
At Manewry, the whole Polish national team was apparently using the event as training before the World Team Championship next week. And, as luck would have it, end3r’s first two games were against two national team players.
That went about as brutally as you’d expect.
“The first two games and I got paired into two representatives of the national team — both games were a proper beating.”
So yes, this was not exactly a gentle tournament experience. More like being thrown straight into the deep end and then discovering the deep end is full of sharks with laser sights.
Still, that’s also part of what makes events like this fun. You get to measure yourself against really strong players, even if the result is less “close tactical masterclass” and more “educational dismantling”. Sometimes that’s the best kind of practice — painful, memorable, and impossible to misinterpret.
The hope for round three was still alive for a moment:
“Maybe I’ll put up a fight in the third one xD”
But a little later the update came in:
“Third one lost too.”
So after three games, the scoreline was clear, the lessons were probably abundant, and the morale was being held together mostly by sarcasm and food.
Because of course there was only one sensible next step:
“Early dinner and in a moment another three.”
And that’s where the real spirit of the day kicked in. Because this wasn’t just Manewry — after that there was also Nocne, with mostly the same crowd.
Which led to one of the most accurate self-assessments we’ve heard in a while:
“I think I’m a Kill Team masochist.”
To which the only proper response, courtesy of Staś, was:
“You think?”
And honestly, yes. Fair.
By the end of it, the diagnosis was updated from “maybe” to “definitely”. Six games in a day, a room full of strong opponents, and a schedule that basically said “what if we made this even more exhausting?” — that absolutely sounds like the kind of thing only a dedicated Kill Team player would sign up for.
And we mean that with affection, because we all know that special event energy: getting battered by top players, grabbing food, laughing it off, and immediately going back for more. That’s tournament hobby life in a nutshell.
Not every event report needs to be about trophies and glorious victories. Sometimes it’s about surviving a gauntlet, learning the hard way, and embracing the fact that we voluntarily spend our weekends doing this to ourselves.
And honestly? We respect it.
If nothing else, it sounds like excellent preparation by exposure therapy.
Good luck to everyone heading into the next rounds — and especially to the Polish team preparing for the World Team Championship.
