Wiatry Magii

A chronicle of our Warhammer journey - painting, battles, and hobby adventures.

First Impressions from the New Arcane Journal for The Old World

We had one of those very familiar hobby moments recently: first a quick size comparison, then the classic question — is this actually the new book, or did someone dig up an older release by accident?

Quick size check of the book

Michał started by noting that, at least physically, the format seemed to match expectations. A moment later came the more important lore question: was this really the new Arcane Journal, or some older publication?

After checking, the answer turned out to be the good one: it is the new one. And that immediately made it more interesting from our point of view, because once Michał started reading, he quickly reported that some parts are genuinely very interesting.

That is probably the most exciting bit for us as a group. We are always on the lookout for material that is not just nice to read in isolation, but that can actually feed back into the way we play. In this case, the immediate reaction was that some of these elements could be pulled into a campaign.

And honestly, that is exactly the kind of lore content we like the most on Wiatry Magii: not just background for the shelf, but background that sparks ideas. Little details, themes, and campaign hooks are often the things that make a setting feel alive at the table. If a new book gives us even a handful of those, it is already doing something right.

We are not pretending this is a full review yet — this was very much an early “started reading, found some cool stuff” kind of reaction. But those first impressions matter. When a supplement immediately makes us think about campaign play, narrative structure, and how to weave its ideas into our own games, that is a very promising start.

We will definitely be keeping this one in mind as we think about future narrative play in Warhammer: The Old World.
