One year since our first The Old World game
Today we realized that exactly one year has passed since Michał’s first Warhammer: The Old World game. That alone would already be a nice excuse for a bit of nostalgia, but the best part is that we actually have a video from that day.
Stas recorded the battle back then, and we’re really glad he did. It’s one of those hobby memories that only gets better with time — especially because after that match we kept going and managed to make a lot more stuff together all the way into January.
The game in question was a small 500-point battle: Grand Cathay vs Orcs & Goblins, played on 12 August 2025 at 2d6. Small game, but clearly an important one for us.
What we like most here is that this wasn’t just “some old game.” It was a beginning. Michał marked it as his first TOW battle, and that gives the whole thing a bit of extra weight. Looking back at first games is always fun — the early lists, the first impressions, the excitement of getting models on the table, and that feeling of discovering a system in practice rather than just reading rules.
There was also a brief moment of friendly teasing in our chat about how great it was and how it’s a shame Stas “doesn’t feel like it anymore,” but, as Stas immediately clarified: that’s not really it. Life happened, and in this case the explanation came in one emoji: 👶. Fair enough.
All the more reason to appreciate that the recording exists. We often talk about painting logs, army progress, and new projects, but hobby memories from actual games hit differently. A recorded battle is a proper time capsule.
So today’s post is just a small anniversary nod to that match and to the fact that we captured it at all. We’re happy we have this little piece of our hobby history saved — and we’re especially happy that Michał’s first step into The Old World is something we can still revisit a year later.
