When the Scale Goes Weird: Adventures with Some Questionable Bases
We had one of those hobby moments recently that is equal parts funny, confusing, and just a tiny bit annoying. End3r opened up a pack and immediately noticed that something was very, very off.
Apparently the scale department had a bad day, because one of the parts looked completely wrong compared to what it was supposed to match.
The best part is that this was not just a vague feeling of “hmm, that looks a bit off.” We got a direct comparison: two supposedly identical 25 mm bases, one from Grendl on the left, and the other from another model from the same pack. Same stated size, very different reality.
That kind of mismatch is exactly the sort of thing that makes you stop mid-build and just stare at the sprue for a while. It is such a small detail, but in miniature hobby terms it can throw off the whole vibe. When the base is wrong, the model just feels wrong too.
Still, hobbying marched on. End3r got the whole plastic crew assembled in the end — and, in a truly professional photo session move, they even took their backpacks off for the group shot.
So this one was less of a grand milestone and more of a classic hobby anecdote: sometimes you sit down expecting a smooth assembly session, and instead you discover that “identical” does not always mean identical. On the bright side, the team is glued together and ready for the next step, and at least we got a good laugh out of it.
If nothing else, it is a nice reminder to always check the contents before committing too hard — especially when scale and bases are involved.
