A chronicle of our Warhammer journey - painting, battles, and hobby adventures.

Old World plans, Necromunda temptations, and a new league on the horizon

We had one of those very hobby-shaped conversations that starts in one system and somehow immediately wanders into another.

This time it was Warhammer: The Old World on one side and Necromunda on the other — and honestly, we can see why. There is a certain overlap in the appeal: campaign play, progression, gear, and that feeling that your games are part of something bigger than a single battle.

Wilini summed up Necromunda in a way that makes it dangerously easy to get interested: small-scale skirmishes, gang wars, buying equipment, and developing your fighters over time. So, basically, the kind of system that can quietly sneak onto the hobby table and then refuse to leave.

And, maybe most importantly for some of us: apparently there is even a dwarf gang option. Which, as noted in the chat, is exactly the sort of thing that would make Ender happy.

At the same time, Stas dropped the kind of message we always like to see: there will be assembling. A fresh box on the way to becoming actual miniatures is always a good sign, and it feels like one of those little hobby moments that can kick off a whole new burst of motivation.

Fresh kit ready for assembly

On the event side, we also got a nice bit of Old World news: this Friday at 10:00, Patryk is playing a 2000-point game of The Old World with a friend. Stas said he’ll try to drop by and cheer from the sidelines, which is very much our kind of event coverage — part match report, part hanging out, part admiring armies.

And that was not even the biggest announcement.

Stas also found out that from September 1st, 2d6 is starting a The Old World “campaign” — effectively a league set in a persistent world, where each league match affects the world map. That sounds exactly like the sort of thing we love seeing around local communities: regular games, a shared setting, and consequences that carry over from one round to the next.

A persistent-map league is such a cool format for The Old World. It gives every game a bit more weight, and it creates that classic campaign feeling where the story grows naturally out of the matches people actually play. We are very curious to see how it develops and whether it pulls more people into regular games.

So right now the mood is very simple:

  • a bit of Necromunda curiosity,
  • a bit of assembly hype,
  • a 2000-point Old World game coming up on Friday,
  • and a local Old World league/campaign launching in September.

Not bad at all.

If all goes well, we may have more to share soon — either from the Friday game, from the assembling desk, or from further temptation caused by tiny gangs with upgrade options and questionable life choices.
