Getting Ready for the Campaign: 750 Points, First Rounds, and No Bare Plastic

We are starting to line up the next campaign, and the first concrete questions have already landed in chat: when should everything be ready, how do we handle the opening rounds, and what do we want armies to look like at the start?

Michal kicked things off by asking when we want him to have the campaign prepared. The good news is that the opening two or three rounds probably won’t require everyone to be physically in the same place. Until the first direct showdown happens, we should be able to play remotely and keep things moving without waiting for a full meetup.

That already sounds like a very friendly way to launch the whole thing. We can get the campaign rolling, start making decisions, and begin building momentum before the first proper face-to-face clash. For us, that is a great compromise between hobby reality and enthusiasm — we all want to play, but getting everyone together right away is not always easy.

The starting point: 750 points

There was also one very relatable hobby request from Michal: it would be really great if those starting 750 points were at least basecoated / roughly painted up, so they don’t scare anyone with bare plastic.

Honestly, we are fully on board with that vibe.

This kind of campaign always feels better when even the early forces already look like armies rather than emergency sprue deployments. It does not need to mean full parade standard from day one, but having those first 750 points at least blocked in, basecoated, or generally made presentable sounds like a very fair and motivating target.

It is also the kind of goal that helps turn campaign prep into a proper hobby push. A manageable force size, a clear deadline, and the promise of actual games — that is usually exactly the kind of pressure we need.

We want to record it

The other exciting bit is that it would be really nice to record some kind of campaign report.

And yes, that sounds like a fantastic idea.

If we manage to get those early armies into decent shape and the campaign starts smoothly, then having a battle report, campaign diary, or even just a casual summary video would be a great way to capture the whole thing. These are always the moments we want to remember later: the rushed painting sessions, the early remote rounds, the first proper duel, and all the campaign nonsense that builds up around it.

So where we are right now

At the moment, the plan looks something like this:

  • Michal is preparing the campaign framework.
  • The first 2–3 rounds should be possible to handle remotely.
  • Before the first proper confrontation, we can keep the action moving without everyone meeting in person.
  • The initial force size is 750 points.
  • Ideally, those starting armies should be at least chop-painted / basecoated enough not to be bare plastic.
  • If all goes well, we would love to record a report from the campaign.

That is already more than enough to get us excited.

Now comes the classic hobby part: painting just enough, just in time, while pretending we definitely had the whole thing planned from the start.
