Squat Assembly, Test Crew, and a Small Base-Sized Problem
We’ve got another episode of end3r’s ongoing Squat saga — apparently somewhere around episode 156 — and this time it’s very much a hobby-progress kind of update: assembly, prep for games, and the eternal little logistical problems that show up when you think you’re just going to glue some tiny space dwarfs together in peace.
It started with a very fitting pairing: a robot and its robot.
There’s something deeply satisfying about this stage of the project. Not painted yet, not even necessarily fully game-ready, but already full of character. Even in raw assembly, the Squat range has that chunky, practical, slightly over-engineered look that makes us want to keep pushing the project forward.
A couple of days later, end3r had the next batch lined up and ready for the following day.
This is one of those hobby moments we know very well: getting a whole little crew assembled and staged together so we can finally see the force starting to look like an actual gang instead of a pile of separate models. Even before paint, that kind of progress gives a lot of momentum.
Then came the more practical part of the plan. These Squats were meant to head out to Legionowo on Thursday for some training games before a campaign. That meant it was time to get them at least partway through the painting pipeline. The optimistic version of the plan was simple: if all went well, they’d get a zenithal prime and green armour.
We really like this kind of realistic hobby goal-setting. Not every project update has to end with a fully painted gang and display photos. Sometimes success is just getting the right models selected, undercoated, and moved one big step closer to the table in time for actual games.
Of course, no hobby project is complete without at least one mildly annoying surprise. In this case, end3r’s Squats got some free 3D-printed Necromunda bases. Sounds great, right? And honestly, it mostly is — except they turned out to be 25mm, while the project needs 28mm.
That’s such a classic hobby situation that we can’t even be mad about it. Free bits are free bits, and they’ll surely be useful to someone — just maybe not for this exact batch. So if anyone ever happens to need some 25mm printed Necromunda bases, apparently there’s a small surplus waiting.
There was also one more practical note from end3r: aside from the gang in the photo, there are five more models already in primer that will get painted too, just to have some reserves ready for bots or other assorted campaign-related nonsense later on. Which, let’s be honest, is exactly the kind of forward planning that usually pays off once a campaign starts improvising new demands.
So that’s where the Squats are right now: assembled, grouped up, partly prepped for Legionowo, and edging toward green armour. Not a glamorous final reveal yet, but very much the kind of hobby progress we love following — steady, useful, and full of that “these are definitely going to see the table soon” energy.
If the next step goes to plan, we’re hoping to see that zenithal and green scheme land on the gang soon.
